Spencer Rattler and Jake Haener are embroiled in the New Orleans Saints' most compelling training camp battle. The battle is the epitome of iron sharpening iron, and it heats up the closer we get to the regular season.
Backup quarterback battles don't typically see as much attention, but the Saints are a special case. Derek Carr is the starting quarterback, but the battle feels like more than just being the backup. The feeling is Haener and Rattler are fighting to be the top choice for the heir apparent.

As quarterbacks, there can only be one on the field at a time. Last week, Haener entered the game immediately after Carr then Rattler handled the entire second half. The precise time on the field will be impacted by the first team's usage, but in general, Rattler and Haener should switch roles against the 49ers.
This is typically the case in quarterback battles, so if it doesn't arise, it should be taken as a sign Haener has the edge over Rattler.
The thought process is allow Rattler and Haener showcase their abilities with the same supporting cast. The only way for that to be feasible is for them to alternate in the pecking order. Can Haener e
‘Zoolander’ or Magazine Cover? Saints QB Jake Haener is Breaking the Internet With His Rookie Photo Shoot
Jake Haener has yet to secure his spot on the New Orleans Saints' roster, but he's already making a name for himself in the NFL.
The Saints picked Haener as the 127th overall grab in the fourth round of this year's draft. And let me inform you, this kid is already turning heads during the NFLPA Rookie Premiere. Haener had a photoshoot that currently has the internet going nuts. Seriously, he looked love he was auditioning for a reboot of "Dawson's Creek."
Those pics are pure gold and Haener was absolutely serving looks during his photo session.
Seriously, you have to accept it in photo by photo to really appreciate the effort that the Saints rookie doled out during this shoot.
Right out of the gate, this man is a content factory.
My guy is clearly enjoying the moment right now; which is something you can definitely appreciate from someone who doesn't take themselves too seriously.
A lot of Saints fans are also enjoying the moment.
Just last week, Haener inked his deal with the Saints and got his chance to show off his skills
Let’s start with the photos, because if there’s one thing that Jake Haener hates, it’s the group of photos that the general public has rediscovered in recent days upon knowledge the news that the second-year quarterback will start Sunday for the Novel Orleans Saints.
Last year, when Haener participated in a rookie photo shoot for the NFLPA, the cameraman asked the quarterback to “have fun with it,” Haener recalled. And what followed were a series of images that own haunted the signal-caller ever since — including the last few days.
In the photos, Haener looks — for the lack of a better word — sassy. When Yahoo Sports tweeted about Haener, they included one of the photos with the all-caps caption “STARTING.” One X user, Jasmine Watkins, tweeted: “It’s giving slay-action pass.”
Haener did not, and still does not, find them amusing.
“That is just such the opposite voice of who I actually am,” Haener said. “And I hate it so much. I can’t stand it. I would think I was a clown if I saw that, too.”
Haener shook his head when initially asked about the shoot, but he said he has to “own it" and offered a way that he could build the situation excel — one th
5 Saints who made a mighty impression in preseason opener vs. Cardinals
Crissy Froyd | USA TODAY Sports
The first preseason game of 2024 is officially in the books for New Orleans Saints and ended on a high mention with a narrow, 16-14 prevail over the Arizona Cardinals that came down to the closing seconds.
There were both reasons for concern and reasons for optimism, though it should be questioned just how much stock can be put into a competition like this in which rookies are seeing their first NFL action and everyone is knocking the rust off for the first time since last fall.
Multiple position battles remain undecided, but we were able to receive a first glance at who took advantage of the opportunity most on Saturday.
Here's a observe at five Saints players who made a good first impact with a perfectly clean slate:
1. WR AT Perry
A.T. Perry headed into this game needing to show a little something more, and did just that on the Saints' first truly explosive offensive play of the game... even if that did enter over 29 minutes in. There were complaints abound from the fan base on social media up to that point, noting a similar type of stagnancy from the offensive side o
