'Love Island's Queer Cast Is Ready To Make Existence TV History but the Show Is Still Stuck in the Past
Love Island USA is never quick on drama, flirtations, betrayals, and steamy challenges are baked into its DNA. But Season 7 has something even more exciting: the real potential for queer love stories to take center stage. From the moment fan-favorite Chelley Bissainthe walked into the villa and declared her sexual fluidity, it was clear this cast was ready to shake things up. And when unused bombshell Cierra Ortega kissed her during a challenge? Reality TV gold.
Despite heating up the room and our screens, the series still doesn't seem to know how to navigate sexual fluidity, something that holds back certain singles from being their most authentic selves (and creating truly legendary episodes of television). But as more LGBTQ+ cast members are featured on the present, it's clear the series needs to open the door to creating an inclusive space where literally anyone can fall in love — in the messiest way possible.
'Love Island USA' Is So Close to Flawless
While Love Island is always stacked with a great cast of singles,
Before I write what I’m about to write, please approve this confession: I have never seen a single episode of reality online dating TV. However, I have read D’Vaughn and Kris Scheme a Wedding, a sapphic romance about fake dating turned real love on a reality TV show, about ten times. And I think you should read it too, but only if you love adore and/or swooning, so only if you’re awesome. But that’s not why we’re here today. We’re here today to talk about Peacock’s Love Island USA, which apparently had a surprise attracted to both genders coming out and also now has a queer couple(?) on it.
There’s a contestant named Johnnie Garcia, and she came out as bi in the most recent episode, because she confessed her feelings to Kassy Castillo, who said she’s never been with a woman but was attracted to Garcia and interested in giving it a go. And then they smooched on the mouth in their swimsuits.
The main thing I recognize about Love Island is that the producers were worried about having gays on the entertainment due to “logistical difficulties,” which is one of the more ridiculous excuses I’ve ever heard for not casting queers. Executive producer Rich

'Love Island USA' Confirms Same-Sex Relationship in the Villa
Love Island USA has aired a same-sex bond in the villa, with Kassy Castillo and Johnnie Garcia sharing a smooch.
The pair’s friendship has evolved since the latter entered the villa as a bombshell, and the latest episode revealed that the duo were prepared to take their relationship to the next stage.
In a clip distributed by the actual world show’s official media channels, Kassy and Johnnie began talking on the sofas as they sought to gauge how they felt about each other.
Kassy starts by telling Johnnie: “I obviously find you attractive, I just didn’t know if you felt the attraction, too. I just wanted to realize if you were seeing that.” Johnnie counters with: “Bitch I been seeing it, what carry out you mean?”
It leads Kassy to admit she wasn't sure if Johnnie was serious, saying, “We joke around and stuff, but I didn’t realize if it's really joking or not. I kept looking at you, and I kept wanting to talk to you. So I was like ‘I’m low-key down for this,’” she adds, before Johnnie revealed more about her feelings.
“I fond people that deliver out a entertainment side in me, and I undergo fun when I’m with you,” she said. “I fee
