What Do You Utter to ‘That’s So Gay’ & Other Anti-LGBTQ+ Comments?

It doesn’t matter if it is a first grader who might not know what the pos “gay” means, a sixth grader trying to sound cool or a tenth grader “teasing” a buddy. All of these scenarios have the potential of creating an unsafe classroom or school environment and must be addressed. So, what can caring adults do?

STOP IT…

Keep it simple with speedy responses:

  • “Remember, we don’t employ put-downs in this class.”
  • “Do you know what ‘gay’ means?"
  • “It’s not OK at this school to apply ‘gay’ disrespectfully to imply something is bad.”
  • “You may not have meant to be hurtful, but when you use the pos ‘gay’ to mean something is bad or ignorant, it is hurtful.” Follow-up with, “Do you grasp why it is hurtful?”
  • “Using any derogatory word to tease someone is harassment and is unacceptable.”
  • “Even if you didn’t mean to offend people who are gay, it is disgusting to call this assignment gay (or queer); if you don’t like something, then say you don’t like it!”
  • “It is never OK to say, ‘you act like a teen (or look like a boy)’ as a put-dow

Chris Appleton Has Opened Up About Coming Out As Male lover At 26 — After Welcoming Two Children With A Long-Term Girlfriend

“I was bullied quite a bit at institution, and people used to say I was gay because I did hair,” Chris went on. “I never was too focused on sexuality, but people at school always mentioned it, and, as a kid, you just don’t ever want to be different — I already felt different because I was dyslexic.”

“I was, I guess, just determined to validate everyone wrong, but so much that I did myself a disjustice [sic],” he admitted. “It wasn’t until I experienced it at 26 that I was also going through it as well as everyone else. The tough thing is, then you’re hurting people around you that you’ve committed to, and you perceive that.”

“People feel appreciate they know you, and you perceive like you grasp them, and all of a sudden you’re telling a different story which you’re trying to figure out,” Chris added. “So it was really difficult for a limited years, it was really difficult.”

Bethenny then praised Chris for realizing that “something massive was missing” from his existence and deciding to make the “courageous jump” by coming out.

“It sounds cheesy, but there’s honestly so much influence in living

When celebrities keep their sexuality ambiguous or participate in overtly homosexual scenarios like kissing their male backup dancer — a ask is sometimes raised: "Are they queerbaiting?"

Queerbaiting typically refers to a marketing tactic where media uses queer imagery, lyrics, plots, and conversation to draw in an LGBTQ+ audience without the intention to deliver accurate LGBTQ+ representation.

Today, the term has evolved and is also used as a criticism of a person, especially a public figure, who is seen to be portraying themselves as queer or ambiguous to pander to the LGBTQ+ group for marketing purposes.

But does this speculation contribute to erasing gender non-conforming identities like bisexuality, asexuality, and pansexuality? Should sexual fluidity or creative roles only be reserved for celebrities who explicitly distinguish as queer? Is their presence detrimental to the LGBTQ+ collective, and are these claims valid? It's complicated!

Here are 10 celebrities accused of queerbaiting and how they responded to the allegations.

1.One of the biggest celebrities dominating the conversation around queerbaiting is Harry Styles. Harry is recognizable for his inclusive music, androgyno

GLAAD’s annual “Where We Are on TV” report was released this week, and was a bit bleak. We’re losing characters across scripted broadcast programming, and of all 468 LGBTQ characters counted across broadcast, cable and streaming networks, 36% won’t be returning due to cancellations, the miniseries/anthology format, or a character dying or otherwise exiting the show. We’ve talked a lot around here about how much these cancellations are f*cking our community, and recently listed more than 52 shows with lesbian and pansexual characters cancelled after one season.

But you wouldn’t know how desperately our people needs more Gay characters on television from doing what I do every month, which is google all kinds of combinations of new show names and networks to figure out if they’re going to be showcasing LGBTQ characters. This is something I possess to do to write the monthly streaming guide. And while those searches often turn out useful information, they also deliver, inevitably, a Reddit thread or Quora thread of people complaining about there entity too many LGBTQ characters on television, or worrying that their favorite comic b
