1. New Year’s Eve Red Shoe Drop

When: December

Ringing in the New Year is a drag — literally. Since 1996, thousands of Key West onlookers possess gathered around Bourbon St. Pub to see local queenly legend Sushi (aka Gary Marion) descend from the building’s second story in a six-foot ruby-red stiletto as the clock strikes midnight. The glittering spectacle is a campy take on NYC’s ball drop, and the eclectic crowds rival the hordes in Times Square. Young families, leather daddies, and bohemian grannies all exhibit up to cheer on Sushi and her gargantuan shoe.

In Key West, Pride isn’t just a celebration; it’s a way of existence. Through June 29, the community’s anything-goes spirit and come-as-you-are attitude shine during Key West Pride, a weeklong tribute to admire , identity and living out loud. With poolside parties, drag brunches, historic grave dives and a vibrant parade through Old Town, Pride in Key West feels like a sun-soaked, all-welcome family reunion.

This year’s theme, Still Rising, honors the continued journey and resilience of the LGBTQ community, while embracing Key West’s commitment to openness and equality under its “One Human Family” philosophy. The city has extended been a haven for artists, rebels and free spirits, with laid-back ambiance, tropical charm and deeply rooted LGBTQ+ history. Key West Pride 2025 welcomes all with open arms.

“From the dance floor to the ocean floor, from trolley tours to champagne toasts, this year’s Self-acceptance is the ultimate party with a purpose,” said Rob Dougherty, executive director of the Key West Business Guild, which runs Key West Pride. “After all these years, we’re still rising, and we’re doing it together in the Keys.”
